In my previous post, I have given you definitions on what a blog is. Now you probably want to start creating your own blog and wondering what steps to do first?
First, you have to ask your self the reasons why you want to blog. There are several reason why someone wants to blog. Some would just want to share their experiences through blogging. Others want to showcase their achievements. Some would like to earn from blogging. Others want to connect with people. While others simply blog to keep account of what is happening in their life.
Knowing your purpose for blogging will help you determine what type of blog you should pursue and what type of blogging platform to choose.
Let us elaborate more on these. Let us enumerate the different types of blogs:
1. Personal
If you simply want to share you experiences through blogging or simply want to write a journal of your everyday life, then a Personal blog is suitable for you. In your personal blog, you can also share your insights about any topic you wish. A personal blog can either be public or private. A public personal blog can be viewed by just any body, while a private personal blog is limited to only to people who have access to their blogs.
2. Portfolio
If you want to showcase your achievements, your works, etc., then a Portfolio blog is best for you. A Portfolio type of blog best suits freelance webmasters, web publishers, web programmers, article writers and  blog writer
3. Business
If you own a local business or is self-employed and you want to personally engage with your customers, then a business blog is best for you. Professionals such as doctors, lawyers, personal trainers, and corporations and individual businesses can make use of a business blog to share their expertise as well as to publicly advertise their business to widen their market.
4. Organization
This blog is usually non-profit and aims to increase awareness as well as to raise funds for their cause. Examples of this are foundations, charities, and human rights groups.
5. Tutorial Blog
The purpose of a tutorial blog is simply to educate the users regarding a certain topic. If you are an expert on a certain field, let's say you're a Physics professor, you can write a tutorial about Physics.
6. Reviews
A review blog is basically made for the purpose of reviewing a certain product such as a website, a movie, a music, a beauty product, a vehicle. It is applicable to both tangible and intangible goods. It can be done as a complex case study or as a simple critical evaluation.
7. Niche blog
This blog focuses on a certain area of expertise or passion. For example, you are passionate about music then you can write a music blog or if you are passionate about flower then your blog will focused on the topic of flowers and anything related to flowers. A niche blog can be used to make money too. The term niche marketing has long been used in the internet marketing arena.
Now that you know the different types of blogs, you can now assess your self to determine what type of blog suits you. In my next post I will share what types of blogging platforms are available and suitable for the type of blog you have chosen.
